There are cars you drive, and cars you look forward to driving. The Continental GT Convertible has always been firmly in the second camp. It's the car for the long way home, the early start to the coast, the evening when you drop the roof simply because you can.
This 2021 example is one of the best we've had through our doors. Finished in grey with black wheels and black exterior detailing, it carries a darker, more understated presence than most Continentals. It's elegant without trying too hard, and it looks every bit as right parked outside a country house as it does on a quiet B-road at dusk.
Under the bonnet sits Bentley's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, with 550PS and 770Nm of torque. Plenty of owners say the V8 is the Continental to have: lighter over the nose than the W12, more eager to turn in, and with a soundtrack that makes the case for itself the moment you open the roof. The roof folds away in around 19 seconds, even on the move at low speed, and the car goes from grand tourer to open-air cruiser without breaking stride.
Step inside and the Mulliner specification makes itself known. The diamond-quilted hide and the finer detailing are where Bentley's craftsmanship is most obvious. Then there's the Rotating Display, one of the most charming pieces of design in any modern car. At the touch of a button the dashboard turns from a 12.3" touchscreen to a trio of classic analogue dials, or to a clean run of veneer when you'd rather leave the screen behind altogether.

At just 16,200 miles, this Continental has barely got going. The paintwork is free of scratches, and the interior is as close to perfect as you'll find on a car of this age. It has clearly been cherished rather than simply used.
To keep it that way, we've just fitted fresh XPEL paint protection film to the bonnet, front bumper and wings in our own XPEL-certified studio. Those are the areas most exposed to stone chips and road wear, so the car's front end is protected from day one of your ownership.
